It was a night for the youngsters to strut their stuff as bFM held their annual Fancy New Band Showcase at Auckland’s Kings Arms. Admission was free and the room was comfortably full with the main stage hosting bands like Courtney Hate, Charlie Freak and Yukon Era, while a second performance are was set up in the rear for electronica artists such as Miloux.

What a GREAT night it was on Saturday night as Dave Dobbyn played a storming set as part of the Titirangi Music festival.
Australian-based blues man Isaiah B Brunt performed at Auckland’s Tuning Fork last night as part of his 11-date tour of New Zealand’s North Island. Joining him on this tour are a couple of Kiwi musicians (Isaiah himself was born in Auckland), drummer Noel Lamberton and bass player Rob Patterson. 13th Floor photographer Chris Zwaagdyk was at the Tuning Fork and has assembled these photos for you to enjoy.

It’s been six long years since Tom Jones played in New Zealand, and last night at The Vector Arena there was a palpable excitement in the air, with some enthusiastic fans dressing up in 70’s gear with wigs, medallions and flamboyant clothes. But is that what the night would be about?!

At 9.15 on Friday , three Greek musicians took WOMAD on a musical journey , as the programme notes say, from ” the mountains of Macedonia and Thrace, travelling along the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean to Smyrni, before arriving at the spellbinding designation of Istanbul ”
The inaugural Auckland City Limits Festival was a rousing success…it was well-run, comfortable and sounded great, with just a few disappointing musical moments and some organizational glitches to mar an otherwise perfect day.
The Buzzcocks returned to Auckland’s Powerstation last night, wrapping up their four-city tour of New Zealand. Unfortunately our 13th Floor reviewer took ill and was unable to attend the show, as was his back-up. Fortunately photographer Chris Zwaagdyk was feeling chipper and so we present to you a photo gallery made up of his images captured at last night’s gig.

Womad 2016 has kicked off to a promising start this year . More than promising.Exciting – though that doesn’t quite cut it . Adventurous, intriguing , fun , danceable , moving , eclectic, original mixes of music – and that’s just talking Friday night’s fare, and a study , online, of the programme of music to come ( www.womad.co.nz – check it out – you may yet be tempted to drive here for a day this weekend !)
