Nashville-based musician Joshua Hedley is in Auckland to perform at The Tuning Fork along with former Old Crow Medicine Show member Willie Watson on Thursday night. Joshua stopped by The 13th Floor this afternoon to chat with Marty Duda and to play a couple of tunes. One song he performed is brand new…the other, an old country favourite. Australian Mark Wilkinson recently performed at Auckland’s Tuning Fork. The 13th Floor cameras were there and captured Mark performing a couple of songs during the sound check. Mark also sat down to have a bit of chat with Marty Duda.
Melbourne-based folk singer Alanna Eileen is in New Zealand to record her first full-length album at Ben Edwards’ studio in Lyttelton. On the way she stopped by The 13th Floor to talk to Marty Duda and to perform a few songs…two of which will appear on the as-yet-unrecorded album. And she is performing several shows while in the country including one tonight at The Wine Cellar, so stop in and check her out.
Auckland-based singer-songwriter Miller has just released his first EP titled Shoot Me In The Heart. The 25-year-old artist comes from a musical family that includes legendary recording engineer Phil Yule (The Chills, Herbs, Shona Laing) who is is father. The music of Mice On Stilts is at once solemn and majestic. The Auckland-based band, led by Benjamin Morley, have just released their debut full-length album, Hope For A Mourning. The 7-piece band gathered at The 13th Floor studios for a video session last week, performing three songs from the new album. Ben also sat down to talk to Marty Duda to add some insight into the band’s music. So, here now, is their complete session, ready for you to enjoy. Just before she set out on the road to promote her new album, Old Haunts, Coco Davis stopped by The 13th Floor studios to talk to Marty Duda about her debut album, which features Coco’s unique take on early blues songs originally sung by the likes of Bessie Smith and Memphis Minnie. Coco also brought along guitarist Tom Rodwell and the two of them performed three songs from the album. You can check them out on tour now…they play at Auckland’s Q Theatre this Saturday, April 16th.
Hollie Smith has just released her third album, Water Or Gold. Just before heading out on the road she stopped by The 13th Floor Studios to talk to Marty Duda about the new record. Hollie spoke specifically about the heartbreaking story behind the song Helena, then performed a stunning version of the tune for our cameras.
It’s a rare opportunity to catch a live performance by Damien Binder these days. The Kiwi singer-songwriter has been living in Sydney for the past decade or so and he hasn’t released a new album since 2009. So The 13th Floor was thrilled to discover that not only was Damien in Auckland a short while ago, but that he had just released A New World, his fourth solo album.
